The network of „IWSS Partner Centres“...

constitutes the basis of the IWSS (1). Education centres of all Wadden Sea regions have joined the network and support the idea of trilateral Wadden education. According to a common mission statement, the centres offer multilingual educational activities and programmes with a special focus on the international Wadden Sea (“Tilateral Core Ativities”).

The partners regulary meet on international workshops, exchange ideas and jointly develop new IWSS-activities and projects.

The IWSS Partner Centres serve as contacts for all questions about the local educational activities. They inform about the concrete offers at the various destinations and compile individual programme packages for each group.

The IWSS Steering Group...

is quasi the “boss” of the project (4). The group steers and supports the development of the project, secures the governmental core financing and represents the project in the “Trilateral Wadden Sea Cooperation”. The steering group is composed of members of the “Trilateral Working Group”, that in turn consists of representatives from the respective ministries of all three Wadden Sea countries. Their task is to implement the “Trilateral Cooperation on the Protection of the Wadden Sea” and also the IWSS as trilateral educational programme.

The „Regional Focal Points“...

are part of the IWSS-Coordination and provide national “service points” in all three countries (2). They promote the IWSS’ offers at schools and among teachers and take care of the national public relations and press work. They keep close contact to the IWSS Partner Centres and the inter-regional coordination.

The Danish Focal point also serves as national “Wadden Sea Coordination” and coordinates the networking activities among the Danish partner centres as well as the implementation of international Wadden education in common projects.

The Focal Points serve as contacts for questions about the IWSS-activities in each country. They also help with the arrangement of school trips to all IWSS-destinations.

The Inter-Regional Coordination...

coordinates the project over all three countries (3) and - as “nerve centre” of the IWSS – takes care of the joint IWSS-activities : the networking between the Partner Centres, the common marketing, the development of trilateral educational activities and materials, press and public work, evaluation, fundraising and much more.

The Inter-Regional Coordination represents the IWSS in publications, at meetings of the “Trilateral Working Group”, events of the “Trilateral Cooperation on the Protection of the Wadden Sea” as well as other relevant events such as symposia or workshops.

The Inter-Regional coordination serves as contact for all questions concerning the whole project, all trans-boundary aspects and all extra-curricular activities and special events such as summer camps or teacher training courses.

National Programmes & Projekts

In each Wadden Sea region there are national and regional educational projects  (5) such as the “Vogeltrackes”-project in The Netherlands, the “Wadden Sea National Park Package” of the three German Wadden Sea National Parks or the Danish project “My Wadden Sea”.
The IWSS cooperates with many of these projects, add trilateral aspects to them and supports the international networking and exchange.

Sponsors & Foundations

Sponsors and project funding support the realization of the IWSS’ aim with material or financial help (6). They facilitate e.g. the development and production of innovative, international teaching resources such as “Conny’s Wadden Adventures” or special events like the “National Park Summer Camp”.
