Natural and cultural experiences at the gate to the Eiderstedt peninsula
Tönning, the picturesque town with a beautiful historical harbour, an old market place, and a church worth visiting marks the gate to the Eiderstedt peninsula in North Frisland. Its rather small size, the close location to the Wadden Sea and the varied, still visible history as seaport and trading town make Tönning a favourite destination for class trips.
The adjacent National Park offers many possibilities to get in touch with the Wadden Sea's unique nature. A visit to the Multimar Wattforum's exhibition and aquariums adds fascinating views into the underwater world.
Within reach of Tönning you can find St.Peter Ording with its broad beaches, the famous Westerhever lighthouse, Germany's only high sea island Helgoland, the “Storm-town” Husum or the fascinating landscape of the birdreserve “Katinger Watt", to name just some examples for favourite excursions.
